The Jim Murray Memorial Golf Classic at the spectacular SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, Calif., has been given a "bye" this year in order to focus on the JMMF 10th anniversary "Tribute to Living Legends of Sports and Media" awards dinner, Thursday, October 30, 2008, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, Calif.

The “Great Ones Award” will be presented to an athlete who, not only was a subject of a Jim Murray column but also excelled in both sport and community. Past "Great Ones Award" honorees are Arnold Palmer, Joe Namath, Bobby Rahal, Chris McCarron, Duke Snider and 2007 honoree, Luc Robitaille.

Additional award categories for 2008 are JMMF Lifetime Achievement Award, 2008 Sportswriter of the Year, 2008 Female Athlete of the Year, 2008 Male Athlete of the Year, and 2008 Rising Star of the Year.

Murray Scholar alumni will introduce the Class of 2008 Murray Scholars at the awards dinner. As of 2008, the JMMF has awarded $332,500.00 in journalism scholarships to college students.
